“Welcoming, Engaging, Insightful: My Start at Mitsubishi Chemical Group”

I’m Dirk Kämper, and I joined Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG) as part of the EMEA Legal team in Düsseldorf. From day one, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate across regions and gain insights into a truly international organization.

Describe your first month at MCG in three words:
Welcoming, engaging, insightful.
These three words reflect both the people and the work environment I experienced from the very beginning.

What helped you feel included early on?
The warm welcome from the EMEA Legal team and colleagues across other functions made a big difference. I was also given the opportunity to get involved in ongoing projects straight away, which helped me feel trusted and included from the start.

How did your team support you in getting settled?
The team was very proactive in showing me everything I needed to know. They took the time to explain procedures clearly and were always available to answer any questions I had. This openness and support made it easy to find my way within the organization.

What skills do you hope to grow during your first year?
I am keen to further enhance my cross-border collaboration skills, especially working efficiently with colleagues from different cultural and legal backgrounds. I also aim to broaden my expertise in international corporate and employment law, while refining my stakeholder management skills by taking on more ownership of projects and contributing to the continuous improvement of legal processes and governance structures.

What attracted you to MCG and why did you decide to join?
I already had experience in the chemical industry, having worked for German and British/American companies. Joining a company with a Japanese parent allowed me to quickly gain valuable intercultural experience. MCG’s strong presence across the EMEA region creates constant cross-border collaboration, which I find both professionally and personally enriching. The Düsseldorf location, close to my home, was an added benefit and made my decision even easier.
