“Educational, Safe, Respectful” – Xavier’s Experience at Mitsubishi Chemical Group

I’m Xavier Desmet, and I joined Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG) in the Production team in Tielt earlier this year. Over the past months, I’ve had the opportunity to grow, learn, and feel truly part of the MCG community.

What moment made you feel “I made the right choice to come work here”?
I immediately felt, during the first weeks after a very warm welcome, that there is a strong sense of unity, excellent guidance with plenty of explanations, and great collegiality. In other words, MCG is a company that treats its employees with respect, and that made me confident I had made the right choice.

How did your team support you in finding your way within the organization?
Even though many of my colleagues are younger than me, their enthusiasm made me feel at home right away. I could ask many questions to my supervisor and learned a lot from him. He guided and supported me throughout the learning process, which helped me settle in smoothly.

Who or what has made a big difference in your development so far?
This role has been a completely new learning experience for me—very interesting, highly technical, and full of opportunities for growth within the company. The many training programs available have challenged me in a positive way and allowed me to develop new skills that I can immediately apply in my work.

A small gesture that made a big difference:
Small gestures can make a big impact. I really appreciate how the company cares about employees’ wellbeing—things like ice cream on warm days, fresh fruit, or complimentary drinks. Initiatives like Compliment Day also make me feel recognized and valued.

Describe your first month at MCG in three words:
“Educational, safe, respectful.” Those words sum up my early experience and continue to reflect the values I see in MCG every day.

Advice to someone starting next week:
Be open to a great atmosphere where you can learn a lot, and take advantage of the welcoming environment. Ask questions, embrace the opportunities to grow, and enjoy being part of a team that values safety, respect, and collaboration.
